We spent the afternoon at Ngilgi Cave . Once known as Yallingup, it was renamed Ngilgi because of its association with an Aboriginal legend describing the battle between Ngilgi and the evil spirit Wolgine. It is a limestone Karst cave.

Limestone cave formations are known as Speleothems. The types of speliothems formed depend on the geometry, chemistry, and other factors in a particular part of the cave. Here's a good description of the various types of speleothems and how they form.

We left Ngilgi Cave, heading back toward Perth, but we were a day ahead of schedule. Looking back on things, we probably should have spent more time in the Stirling Range or Fitzgerald park, but we didn't know then how things would turn out. But we were in for a pleasant surprise when we camped for the night at Wellington National Park.
