We returned to Windhoek from our summer of teaching, stashed our good clothes and excess personal gear, revelled in taking a hot shower, and crashed. We were up bright and early to load up a van Bret had rented with camping gear, and then we were off to explore parts of Namibia we hadn't yet had the opportunity to see.

We had basically three destinations: Etosha National Park, Swakopmund, and the Sosusvlei in the Namib Naukluft National Park. In the process we would travel through parts of Damaraland and the Skeleton Coast. Etosha was first on our itinerary, so we headed north. Also accompanying us was a 2012 volunteer named Damaras, who now lived in Swakopmund and was starting her own tour business.

I really want to say thanks to our in-country director, Bret McSpadden, for arranging this extra-curricular trip for us. It was a blast, and we got to see a lot of the country we wouldn't have seen otherwise for lack of time. It was an inspiration to return in the future, and hopefully inspire some to commit to a longer stay later. It was the first time he had arranged such a trip for volunteers, and he did a bang-up job.
